After the heart beating stops, patients occur obnubilation, and may have short twitching, then limbs attack flaccid and paralysis, but do not immediately stop breathing, which might have a number of struggling to breathe (commonly known as "inverted breath").

1. First judge whether the patient has been unconscious by shouting his name loudly, if no response, then the patient has been unconscious.

2. Rescuer puts one hand on a patient's forehead to make the head lean back and underjaw up, while puts the other hand to touch the carotid pulse, that is the rescuer stands on the patient's left, put the index and middle fingers on the middle part of the trachea; if it is a male, rescuer can first touch the Adam's apple, and then move sideways 2 to 3 cm (about 2 fingers), touching slightly the surface of the trachea can feel the carotid pulse. If the arterial pulse disappears, it indicates the heart beating has stopped. When the rescuer touches the carotid artery, he should pay attention not to excessively put forth his strengh to prevent carotid artery getting pressure, blocking blood supply to the head. Do not touch for more than 10 seconds, so as not to delay the rescue time.
