Heart murmurs do not mean the confirmed diagnosis of congenital heart disease

The main sign of congenital heart disease is heart murmurs. The diagnosis of congenital heart disease not only listens to heart murmurs, but has to combine with the patient’s disease history, physical examination, electrocardiogram, echocardiography and so on before it can be confirmed; if necessary, it requires the further cardiovascular imaging for the confirmation of diagnosis. More than half of children at the neonatal period have soft heart murmurs, but only 1/7 of them are later diagnosed with heart disease (3 months later), therefore, parents do not have to be over panic after hearing their children appear heart murmurs. Heart murmurs are referred to the sound with a longer duration besides the normal heart sound. There are two cases for heart murmurs in children, one as physiological noise, and the other as pathological murmur. Heart murmurs in children are not always a disease.
